Preview: Dodgers Look To Avoid Being Swept By Diamondbacks

The Los Angeles Dodgers have strangely lost each of the four games Clayton Kershaw or Kenley Jansen have pitched in this season, with their latest defeat coming at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The loss was the Dodgers’ eighth in a row (regular season) to the Diamondbacks.

Now Los Angeles needs a win in Wednesday afternoon’s affair to avoid being swept in the three-game set at Chase Field. They’ll look to get back in the win column with another left-hander on the mound, this time in Alex Wood for his second start.

He logged eight scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants, yielding just one infield single while striking out five batters in what was a stellar 2018 debut. Wood thrived against the Diamondbacks last season, posting a perfect 3-0 record in four games (three starts).

He pitched to a 2.57 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 21 innings with 23 strikeouts to four walks. Despite that success, Wood struggled in two starts at Chase Field in 2017. He accumulated a 5.06 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 10.2 innings and allowed two home runs in the limited sample size.

The Diamondbacks counter with fellow left-hander Patrick Corbin, who also enjoyed a solid start to his 2018 campaign. Against the Colorado Rockies, he allowed two earned runs over 5.2 innings of work, with eight strikeouts.

Last season against the Dodgers, Corbin struggled to the tune of a 5.06 ERA and 1.97 WHIP in 10.2 innings across two starts. He struck out 11 batters but issued six walks (one intentional) and two home runs during the span.

For his career against Los Angeles, Corbin owns a 3-9 record with a 4.42 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 79.1 innings, allowing 95 hits, 39 earned runs and 30 walks.
