Pirates Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Gavin Lux Starts At Third Base

The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their homestand with a comeback against the Pittsburgh Pirates and now look to take the series while also extending their winning streak to five games.

Despite winning eight of their last 10 and boasting the second-best record in the Majors, the Dodgers enter play four games back of the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West.

David Price looks to help L.A. keep their momentum going in what’s his 10th start and 31st overall game this year. Price enters 4-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.

Price starts on an extra day of rest and is one of the few remaining options in the rotation. Price helped pick up the Dodgers’ relievers by continuing to pitch after a lengthy rain delay last week, and the club will benefit from any pressure he can take off them with a bullpen game looming on Wednesday.

Wil Crowe takes the mound for the Pirates in his 19th game (18th start) of the year. The right-hander has failed to reach the fifth inning in four of his past seven outings, and two in a row. Though last week against the St. Louis Cardinals, Crowe only allowed one run.

Crowe, who made his MLB debut with the Washington Nationals last season, has yet to face the Dodgers in his young career.

Cody Bellinger, Corey Seager and Will Smith are back in the lineup after a night of rest. Seager pinch-hit in the series opener, and so too did did Bellinger, who then remained in the game at first base before finishing in center field.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers reinstated Gavin Lux from the 10-day injured list and have him starting at third base. Lux played some of the hot corner while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but this marks his first time doing so at the Major League level.

Evan Phillips, who was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays, was also added to the active roster. Andre Jackson and Conner Greene were optioned to Oklahoma City as the corresponding moves.
