After splitting the first two games of the series, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies meet in the rubber match at Dodger Stadium.
Gavin Stone makes his 21st start of the season and looks to get back on a track after a rough stretch. Since July 3, Stone has allowed at least four runs in four of his last five outings.
Before that, the right-hander went 9-2 with a 2.73 ERA, 3.35 FIP and 1.12 WHIP in 15 starts. Stone brings with him an overall 9-5 record, 3.63 ERA, 3.98 FIP and 1.30 WHIP in 111.2 innings pitched this season.
In his previous start against the Phillies on July 10, Stone allowed four runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings of work.
The Dodgers need Stone to get back on track amid some continued inconsistency from their starting rotation.
Philadelphia counters with Tyler Phillips, who makes just the sixth appearance (fifth start) of his MLB career. Phillips is coming off his worst performance after giving up eight runs in 1.2 innings against the Seattle Mariners.
That came on the heels of Phillips throwing a complete-game shutout against the Cleveland Guardians. The 26-year-old at one point had not allowed a run in 15 consecutive innings.
Phillips enters at 3-1 with a 4.39 ERA, 5.16 FIP and 1.01 WHIP in 26.2 innings pitched at the big league level this season.
Prior to the game, the Dodgers activated Michael Grove and Miguel Rojas. Brusdar Graterol was placed on the 15-day injured list and the Dodgers optioned James Outman to Triple- A Oklahoma City as the corresponding roster moves.
Rojas is starting at shortstop but is likely to fill a utility role off the bench once Mookie Betts returns.
