The long anticipated National League Division Series matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres is set to begin Tuesday at Globe Life Field. Major League Baseball announced first pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 6:38 p.m. PT, with FS1 carrying the exclusive broadcast.
With the exception of Game 3, which will air on MLB Network, the entire NLDS will be carried by FS1. SportsNet LA will continue to provide comprehensive pre- and postgame coverage. Furthermore, each game begins during the 6 o’clock hour, except for a potential Game 5.
As the No. 1 overall seed in the NL playoff standings and with the best record in baseball, the Dodgers will be the designated home team for up to three NLDS games. L.A. is in the DS for an eighth consecutive season, though this year is the first time it is not their opening round of the playoffs.
With MLB expanding the postseason, the Dodgers first faced the Milwaukee Brewers in a Wild Card Series. They swept the best-of-three set, then departed for the Texas bubble without knowing the identity of their next opponent.
After dropping Game 1 to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Padres twice staved of elimination to win their Wild Card round matchup. San Diego advanced behind an impressive effort from their pitching staff in Game 3 as nine pitches combined for a shutout.
The Padres are hopeful to see the returns of Mike Clevinger and Dinelson Lamet in the NLDS. Both right-handers were left off their Wild Card Series roster because of respective injuries.
Neither club has announced their NLDS rotation nor active roster, which isn’t required to officially be submitted until Tuesday morning. The Dodgers opted for 15 position players and 13 pitchers in the Wild Card Series, but figure to do some shuffling for the NLDS.
The Dodgers went 6-4 against the Padres this season, including winning two of three during a key series at Petco Park late in September, which essentially decided the NL West title.
