Padres Vs. Dodgers Game 3 Preview: Dustin May Starts As L.A. Goes For Sweep

On the heels of a thrilling 6-5 victory, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to complete a sweep of the San Diego Padres in Game 3 of the National League Division Series at Globe Life Field.

Though a decision didn’t come until hours before first pitch, the Dodgers announced that Dustin May will get the start in Game 3. May pitched in the NLDS opener, striking out three over two perfect innings in relief.

May went an overall 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA, 4.62 FIP and 1.09 WHIP in 56 innings during the regular season (12 games, 10 starts). In three appearances against the Padres, he compiled a 1-1 record with a 2.60 ERA and 0.87 WHIP over 17.1 innings.

While it remains to be seen how long of a leash May will have, the Dodgers could ultimately choose to piggyback him with one of Julio Urias or Tony Gonsolin.

Of the three, only Urias appeared during the Wild Card Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, effectively serving as a piggyback to Buehler in Game 1.

The more intriguing pitching decision for the Dodgers may be who closes the game. Roberts suggested he was going to evaluate Kenley Jansen’s role, and the right-hander likely isn’t available anyhow after throwing 30 pitches but only getting two outs in the ninth inning.

The Padres counter with Adrián Morejón, who will serve as the opener. He filled the role on multiple occasions during the regular season, never logging more than three innings pitched in either of his nine appearances (four starts).

Two of those games were against the Dodgers, which he allowed a combined two runs in two innings pitched with three strikeouts.

Morejón made two relief appearances against the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card round, allowing just one hit across three scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
