With Hyun-jin Ryu looking to turn in a bounce-back effort, the Los Angeles Dodgers open a four-game series at home against the San Diego Padres on Thursday as sizable favorites on the MLB betting lines at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Ryu and the Dodgers are set as -230 betting favorites (wager $230 to win $100) with the Padres coming back as +195 underdogs (wager $100 to win $195) as the teams get set to square off in the series opener on Thursday.

And the left-hander carries a stellar 9-2 record with a 1.83 ERA into the start, but he’s coming off his worst outing so far on the season.

Ryu was knocked around for seven earned runs on nine hits in just four innings of work on the road against the Colorado Rockies last Friday, after he’d given up just five earned runs over his previous 10 outings combined dating back to May 1.

Los Angeles ended up losing that game 13-9; however, the Dodgers are a lucrative 11-5 over Ryu’s 16 starts so far this season.

As well, the Dodgers are 8-2 in Ryu’s last 10 starts against the Padres dating back to the 2013 season, and they’ve won four straight with him on the mound against San Diego.

And overall Los Angeles is 8-2 in its last 10 games against San Diego dating back to last season, according to the OddsShark MLB Database, picking up wins in four of five games against them so far in 2019. That includes taking two of three at San Diego from May 3-5, and then earning a pair of victories at Dodger Stadium from May 14-15.

The OVER has paid off for totals bettors in seven of the last 10 games between the Dodgers and the Padres, and in three of the five meetings between the NL West clubs this season.

Things won’t get any easier for the Padres on Friday night with the Dodgers scheduled to send Clayton Kershaw to the mound in the second game of the series, as Los Angeles is 10-0 in the left-hander’s last 10 starts against San Diego dating back to 2015. The Dodgers, though, are 0-2 in Kershaw’s last two outings, despite his 7-2 record and 3.23 ERA on the season.
