Oakland A’s Playing At Sutter Health Park Before Moving To Las Vegas

The Oakland Athletics, Sacramento Kings and majority owner of the Sacramento River Cats announced plans for the club to play home games at Sutter Health Park from the 2025 through 2027 seasons, ahead of the team’s move to Las Vegas in 2028.

However, multiple reports have also indicated Sutter Health Park could be home to the A’s through the 2028 season as well. That serves as insurance should the team’s move to Las Vegas need to be delayed until 2029.

While the A’s secured some flexibility with moving their home games in Sutter Health Park starting in 2025, fact of the matter is their planned move to Las Vegas was originally targeted for 2027. Now it conceivably won’t be for another four baseball seasons if obstacles arise with construction of their Las Vegas stadium.

The last A’s game in Oakland is scheduled for Sept. 29, 2024.

The A’s eventual move to Las Vegas has been a source of controversy and friction for not only the city of Oakland, but MLB and fans as well since the team sought to relocate.

“We explored several locations for a temporary home, including the Oakland Coliseum. Even with the long-standing relationship and good intentions on all sides in the negotiations with Oakland, the conditions to achieve an agreement seemed out of reach,” A’s owner and managing partner John Fisher said in a statement.

“We understand the disappointment this news brings to our fans, as this season marks our final one in Oakland. Throughout this season, we will honor and celebrate our time in Oakland, and will share additional details soon. We extend our appreciation to the Kings and the City of West Sacramento, and look forward to making Sutter Health Park our home until our new ballpark opens in Las Vegas.”

During their time in Sacramento, the Athletics’ team name will not have a city attached and they merely will be known as the A’s.

Sutter Health Park capacity for A’s games

Sutter Health Park has 10,624 fixed seats but total capacity for A’s games can be in excess of 14,000 due to lawn seating and standing room areas.

A’s attendance has been down over recent seasons due to fans boycotting not only the move to Las Vegas but overall direction of the team’s payroll and competitiveness.
