A rare stretch of inclement weather did not stop the Justin Turner Foundation Golf Classic from being held at the exclusive Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Monday morning.
The ninth annual fundraising event was hosted by Justin Turner, along with wife and vice president of the Justin Turner Foundation, Kourtney Turner.
Participants received a VIP gift bag that included an adidas backpack and golf cleats, Kaenon sunglasses, JTF Baseballism hat, Mizzen + Main polo, Oofos recovery slides, Bruce Bolt golf glove, Dad Gang hat, Yeti cup, JTF golf towel, Stitch Golf JTF golf shoe bag, and various products from The Beard Club, goodwipes, The New Primal, LOVE CORN, Create, Caldera + Lab, Momentous, AG1, Barry’s, Barefoot Dreams and SLAM.
The gift bags represented a small token of appreciation the Turners have for golfers who continue to show support for the foundation and in turn assist in funding ongoing initiatives.
“It’s easy to get lost in this beautiful golf course out here and we try to put together a bunch of swag and send guys home with bags full of stuff, but at the end of the day, we are here to raise money to be able to impact the city of Los Angeles,” Justin Turner told DodgerBlue.com.
“Help out homeless veterans, help out kids in hospitals who are battling different illnesses and diseases, to keep the shelves of the food bank at The Dream Center fully stocked so they can continue to pass out 1,000 meals a day. The support is great, the friendships are great, but at the end of the day we are here to raise money.”
In June 2020, The Dream Center unveiled the Justin & Kourtney Turner Food Bank. The couple already had spent several years working closely with the local nonprofit to provide for homeless veterans and families, among others.
Justin Turner connected to LA
This year’s golf tournament was the third for the foundation since Turner left the Dodgers in free agency. Either individually or through his foundation, Turner was active in the community in Boston, Toronto, Seattle and Chicago, but Los Angeles continues to hold a sentimental meaning.
“I think being from Southern California, it’s important to keep the foundation here and continue to give back,” Turner said. “The relationships that we’ve made over these nine years, a lot of these guys aren’t just foundation supporters. They’ve become friends, and going on trips and spending time with their families. I think that’s the beauty of it.
“We get to do a lot of fun stuff for a great cause, and on the side we’re making a ton of great friends out of it. It’s pretty special.”
