Time is running out for the Atlanta Braves to catch the Los Angeles Dodgers for the top seed in the National League, as just 10 games remain in the regular season heading into Wednesday’s MLB action.
While the Braves have all but clinched the NL East division title for the second consecutive year, they will most likely need to settle for the second-best record in the league and being the second choice on the odds to win the NL pennant at +315 (bet $100 to win $315) at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Dodgers are still the team to beat as -105 favorites (bet $105 to win $100) at sports betting sites to take home their third straight pennant, and rightfully so.
They have had the best record in the NL for most of 2019 and remain within striking distance of the Houston Astros and New York Yankees for the top mark overall and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, which could be the difference if they meet one of them in the World Series.
The big question is, what other NL teams will be filling out the rest of the playoff bracket two weeks from now when the postseason officially gets underway? The NL Central’s St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers are all within two games of each other for the division lead, and all of them pose a threat to win the pennant if they can get into the playoffs.
The Cardinals currently lead the division, and they are listed as the +700 third choice to win the pennant over the Cubs (+1000) and Brewers (+1600). Milwaukee is the hottest team in the league though, winning four in a row and 11 of 12.
The Washington Nationals own the top Wild Card spot over both the second and third place teams from the Central, and they are tied with Chicago as the +1000 co-fourth choice behind Los Angeles, Atlanta and St. Louis on those MLB odds.
Washington plays its last eight games at home against the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Indians, and that should help the team’s chances of making the postseason for the third time in four years.
