The Los Angeles Dodgers are well represented on the MLB Top 100 Right Now list heading into the 2024 season with Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Max Muncy all included.

The Dodgers were one of only two teams (New York Yankees) to have three players listed within the top 10. L.A’s seven total selections trailed only the Atlanta Braves, who had nine players featured on the MLB Top 100 Right Now list for 2024.

Yamamoto, Glasnow and Muncy are newcomers in this year’s rankings, while Betts, Ohtani, Freeman and Smith were included on the list for last season.

Dodgers ranked on MLB Top 100 Players Right Now list for 2024

Mookie Betts, No. 2

Up two spots from the 2023 list, Betts is coming off a stellar season that saw him bat .307/.408/.579 with 40 doubles, 39 home runs, 14 stolen bases and 96 walks over 152 games that resulted in a second-place finish in National League MVP voting.

Betts will look to replicate those numbers as he transitions to second base on a regular basis during the 2024 season. He’s remaining in the leadoff spot of the Dodgers lineup.

Shohei Ohtani, No. 4

Ohtani dropped three spots from last year’s rankings, but it’s not for a lack of production as he hit a stellar .304/.412/.654 with 26 doubles, eight triples, 44 home runs, 95 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 599 plate appearances across 135 games with the Los Angeles Angels.

On the mound, Ohtani went 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA, 4.00 FIP, 1.06 WHIP and 11.4 strikeouts per nine in 132 innings pitched (23 starts). The two-way superstar earned unanimous American League MVP honors for the second time in three years.

Ohtani is not expected to pitch this year as he recovers from elbow surgery, but will continue making an impact as the Dodgers’ designated hitter.

Freddie Freeman, No. 5

Freeman is up five spots from the 2023 season after a historic year that saw him break the Dodgers franchise doubles record and Los Angeles records for extra-base hits and runs scored, among other accolades.

He batted .331/.410/.567 with 59 doubles, 29 home runs and 102 RBI while eclipsing the 200-hit mark for the first time in his career.

Will Smith, No. 45

Smith is down three spots from last year’s rankings despite enjoying an All-Star season that saw him hit .261/.359/.438 with 21 doubles, 19 home runs and 76 RBI.

He had a stellar first half before going into a prolonged slump after the All-Star break. He nevertheless remained productive while playing through a fractured rib during the first half.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, No. 61

Yamamoto has yet to throw a pitch in the big leagues, but he is ranked the No. 61 player heading into the 2024 season for good reason.

The right-hander went 17-6 with a 1.21 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 176 strikeouts in 24 games for the Orix Buffaloes last year. He finished his Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) career by winning both the Eiji Sawamura Award (equivalent to MLB’s Cy Young) and Pacific League MVP three years in a row.

Tyler Glasnow, No. 74

Glasnow went 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 2.91 FIP, 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 strikeouts per nine in 120 innings pitched over 21 starts for the Tampa Bay Rays last year.

He missed nearly the first two months of the season due to a left oblique strain, but managed to stay on the field the rest of the way. When healthy, the right-hander is one of the most talented starting pitchers in the league.

Max Muncy, No. 79

Muncy hit .212/.333/.475 with 17 doubles, one triple, 36 home runs, 105 RBI, 95 runs scored and 85 walks last season. His 14.7% walk rate ranked fifth in baseball, two spots behind Ohtani.
