Mookie Betts Mic’d UP: Juan Soto’s Plate Discipline, Dodgers Teammates In Need Of Makeover & More Highlights

Mookie Betts was mic’d up for the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast of the series finale between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers, which made for an entertaining discussion with Karl Ravech and Eduardo Perez during the fifth inning.

The Dodgers had just put together a five-run inning to take a lead, which Betts contributed to by hitting a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.

Among the topics he touched on with the broadcasters was friendships with celebrities, which Dodgers teammate is in need of a fashion makeover, being more open to analytics and Juan Soto’s vision that contributes to elite discipline at the plate.

Initially reluctant to discuss being friendly with other stars who reside in Los Angeles, Betts revealed rapper Nelly makes regular visits to his home at 2 a.m. and the two will play pool together.

Betts also said Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul lives around the block and they have gone bowling but not played basketball against one another.

During a Padres pitching change, Ravech asked Betts which of his Dodgers teammates could use a makeover. As the six-time All-Star mulled it over, he walked toward Cody Bellinger to ask for his input. Betts began by saying Bellinger was his initial choice, but he needed advice.

The two appeared to settle on Chris Taylor, but Betts reiterated he still thought Bellinger would benefit from a new wardrobe.

“It was good,” Betts said of being mic’d up. “It’s always fun being on with those guys.”

Nelly performed at Mookie Betts’ wedding

Social media posts during the offseason showed Nelly not only attended Betts’ wedding but performed as well.

Then when speaking about the Dodgers’ pursuit of Freddie Freeman in free agency, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said himself, manager Dave Roberts and Justin Turner walked out during Nelly’s concert to call Freeman a final time before the MLB lockout began.
