Mookie Betts: ‘Good To Know’ Dodgers Can Get On A Roll

After scoring at least five runs in five of nine games on a road trip and following that with a 2-1 win upon returning to Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers have unleashed their power on back-to-back nights, with Mookie Betts and Corey Seager among the driving forces.

Betts’ home run in the seventh inning on Wednesday night helped spark the Dodgers’ historic comeback against the San Diego Padres, and he hit a leadoff shot on Thursday. The Dodgers collectively slugged five homers in an 8-3 win to complete a third consecutive series sweep of the Padres.

Overall, the Dodgers are on a four-game winning streak heading into their final series of the regular season.

“Obviously super good getting wins and whatnot. It’s been a while since we’ve clicked, so it’s good to know we can do it,” Betts said.

Despite having 103 wins, the Dodgers remain two games back of the San Francisco Giants for first place in the National League West. L.A. is in need of San Diego to win their series at Oracle Park in order to potentially extend their streak of division titles to nine.

“We’re still chasing a division title and we have to keep playing. There’s no letting off the gas,” Betts added. “We’ve got to keep going and carry the momentum into the postseason.”

Betts encouraged with production, health

After being slow to find his form upon returning from a second stint on the 10-day injured list because of right hip trouble, Betts has swung the bat well of late and is on a modest three-game hitting streak, which includes a homer on back-to-back nights.

“I’ve felt pretty good. Taken some pretty good swings, trying not to chase so much,” he said. “I know I’ve chased a little more than I would like, but I feel pretty good.”

Perhaps most importantly, Betts’ hip remains a non-issue. “Everything is good,” he said.

“I’m running, doing anything and everything I need to do to help the team win.”
