When the Los Angeles Dodgers were looking to fill a void at second base prior to the 2017 season, they were most prominently linked to Brian Dozier of the Minnesota Twins. However, he was coming off a career season, and the Dodgers were unwilling to meet the Twins’ asking price.

At the time, it was believed the Twins were seeking a package headlined by top prospects. They Dodgers were said to have floated a one-for-one swap of Jose De Leon for Dozier.

After weeks of reported negotiations, Los Angeles ultimately pivoted to flip De Leon to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Logan Forsythe. While it was a solid acquisition at the time, Forsythe struggled to remain healthy and produce.

Nearly two years later, the Dodgers have fortified second base by trading for Dozier, according to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick:

Brian Dozier has been traded to the #Dodgers. Deal is done. @Ken_Rosenthal reported close.

Meanwhile, Forsythe’s tenure with the Dodgers has come to an end, as he was traded to the Twins, along with Devin Smeltzer and Luke Raley, per Michael Duarte of NBC L.A.:

BREAKING: Sources: #Dodgers have acquired #MNTwins Brian Dozier for Logan Forsythe, Luke Raley and Devin Smeltzer

— Michael J. Duarte (@michaeljduarte) July 31, 2018

Dozier is batting .224/.305/.402 with 21 doubles, 16 home runs, 52 RBI and a 91 OPS+ through 104 games. Like Forsythe, he is on track to become a free agent this winter.
