The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have a player ranked by The Shredder on the list of MLB Top-10 Relief Pitchers Right Now heading into the 2025 season, but Blake Treinen was included in the just missed category.
Treinen was ranked the eighth-best relief pitcher for this year by MLB Network analyst Brian Kenny.
The Shredder ranked New York Yankees closer Devin Williams as the best relief pitcher in baseball. The Milwaukee Brewers traded Williams to the Yankees last month, but it wasn’t without the Dodgers making a strong push to acquire him as well.
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Edwin Uceta, who originally signed with the Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 2016, placed No. 6 on the list.
Also of note, The Shredder ranked Dodgers free agent target Tanner Scott as the seventh-best relief pitcher heading into the 2025 season.
Evan Phillips represented the Dodgers on The Shredder’s rankings of the top relief pitchers in baseball for the 2024 season as he checked in at No. 4. Brusdar Graterol was included among the relievers in the just missed category for last year.
Treinen didn’t make his 2024 debut until May because of a lung injury but still enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career. He posted a 7-3 record with a 1.93 ERA, 2.99 FIP, 0.94 WHIP and 10.8 strikeouts per nine in 46.2 innings pitched across 50 appearances.
Treinen also went 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA and team-leading three saves in 11.1 innings during the postseason.
The right-hander reached free agency after the season but re-signed with the Dodgers on a two-year, $22 million contract that included a $5 million signing bonus.
Treinen will continue being used in high-leverage situations and should receive some save opportunities as well, especially if the team decides to go with a closer-by-committee.
Across 10 MLB seasons, Treinen owns a 43-34 record with a 2.78 ERA, 3.26 FIP, 1.20 WHIP and 80 saves over 549.2 innings pitched (499 appearances). In addition to the Dodgers, he has pitched for the Washington Nationals (2014-2017) and Oakland Athletics (2017-2019).
