The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have a player ranked by The Shredder on the list of MLB Top-10 Left Fielders Right Now heading into the 2025 season.
However, former Dodgers prospect Yordan Alvarez topped the rankings and also placed No. 1 on lists compiled by analysts Brian Kenny, Chris Young and Vince Gennaro.
The Houston Astros slugger was ranked the No. 1 left fielder for the third year in a row. He has the second-most top finishes all-time at the position since The Shredder’s inception in 2011, which trails only Ryan Braun (2011-2013, 2017).
The Dodgers signed Alvarez as an international free agent in 2016 before infamously trading him to the Astros for Josh Fields later that year.
Alvarez has since developed into one of the best power hitters in all of baseball. He is coming off another excellent season that saw him bat .308/.392/.567 with 34 doubles, two triples, 35 home runs and 86 RBI in 147 games.
Since joining the Astros, Alvarez won unanimous American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2019 and has been selected to the All-Star Game three times. He also won a Silver Slugger Award and was part of the team’s 2022 World Series championship run.
Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman discussed the deal several years ago and bluntly said he regrets trading Alvarez.
The Dodgers’ last representative on The Shredder’s list of top left fielders was AJ Pollock, who placed eighth for the 2022 season.
Though, Teoscar Hernández was ranked No. 8 on the MLB list of Top-10 Right Fielders heading into the 2024 season despite primarily playing left field for the Dodgers. Hernández was again ranked among the best right fielders in baseball this year.
