The Los Angeles Dodgers did not have a player ranked by The Shredder on the list of MLB Top-10 Center Fielders Right Now heading into the 2025 season, but Tommy Edman was included in just missed category.
The Shredder ranked Seattle Mariners All-Star Julio Rodríguez as the best center fielder in baseball. The data-driven list has a new look for 2025 due to some players struggling of late and recent position changes for the likes of New York Yankees teammates Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger.
Edman was ranked the 10th-best center fielder for this year by MLB Network analyst Chris Young.
James Outman represented the Dodgers on The Shredder’s rankings of the top center fielders in baseball for the 2024 season as he checked in sixth. MLB Network analyst Mike Petriello had Outman ranked seventh and he placed eighth on Vince Gennaro’s list.
Edman didn’t make his 2024 debut until August, at which point he was with the Dodgers after being included in a three-team trade that involved the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox.
Edman made 24 starts for the Dodgers in center field and also played 18 at shortstop. Come the postseason, Edman started 12 of his 16 games at shortstop due to Miguel Rojas’ sports hernia injury.
He was assumed to be the Dodgers’ center fielder in 2025, but manager Dave Roberts recently indicated the team needed to finalize a decision at the position with Michael Conforto (left field) and Teoscar Hernández (right field) due to be the primary starters in the corner spots.
If Edman does not start in center field, he potentially could take on duties at second base in the wake of the Dodgers trading Gavin Lux. Though, it’s believed Hyeseong Kim will be given an opportunity to play second base as well.
