MLB The Show 22 Available On Nintendo Switch

For the first time ever, MLB The Show will be produced for Nintendo as the next installment of their game will be released for the Switch, just one year after the popular baseball video game was first produced for Xbox.

The Show is developed by San Diego Studio, which is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, so the game has long been a PlayStation exclusive. However, when their exclusive contract with MLB expired in 2019, the company agreed to produce the game for more platforms to hold their exclusivity rights.

Baseball games on non-PlayStation platforms were previously limited to cartoonish, non-sim games like RBI Baseball and Super Mega Baseball, so this gives a true MLB game for people on the Switch.

MLB The Show 22 coming to Nintendo Switch also marks the second time the franchise will be on a portable platform as it was previously made for the Playstation Portable (PSP). The portability will be a major selling point for the game as Nintendo’s console won’t be able to compete visually with an Xbox or Playstation that is capable of running the game in 4K.

Last year, The Show also introduced cross-platform play with a cross progression system that allows you to continue to earn progress no matter which console you are playing on. The feature will carry over into 2022 and will be available on the Switch as well.

The Show features multiple game modes to play, including Diamond Dynasty, which is a card-collecting and custom team builder mode, Road to the Show, which is their RPG mode, Franchise mode and March to October.

For next-gen consoles, The Show will also bring back the stadium creator that allows users to make their own custom stadium and play with them against the computer or other players online. However, this feature is not available on the Switch or older generation gaming systems due to the power it takes to run it.

The game is available for preorder now and will release Tuesday, April 5.

Shohei Ohtani unveiled as MLB The Show 22 cover athlete

Ending days of speculation and anticipation, San Diego Studio revealed Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani as the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete. The unveiling was made via live stream from Times Square in New York.

Ohtani also is on the cover of the MVP Edition of MLB The Show 22. He is the first member of the Angels organization to be featured on the cover of a video game, the first Asian athlete to earn the honor, and the first pitcher to ever be on the cover of an MLB The Show game.

Ohtani was an expected pick after he put together a historic 2021 season. Among other accomplishments, he was unanimously voted American League MVP, made the All-Star Game as a pitcher and hitter, and earned a Silver Slugger Award.
