MLB Rumors: Orioles Pursuing Dodgers Free-Agent Outfielder Josh Reddick

The Los Angeles Dodgers were linked to an abundance of starting pitchers and outfielders in the weeks leading up to the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline. Chris Archer, Matt Moore and Jay Bruce were the hot names, but Los Angeles acquired Rich Hill and Josh Reddick from the Oakland Athletics in a five-player trade.

Hill, although on the 15-day disabled list with a blister issue, was among the top pitchers in baseball at the time, and Reddick was enjoying the best season of his career after missing six weeks with a fractured left thumb.

Both players were on expiring contracts, and to this point it appears the Dodgers have more interest in re-signing Hill than Reddick.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the 29-year-old outfielder is garnering interest from the Baltimore Orioles:

Reddick faced added pressure in Los Angeles as his arrival coincided with Yasiel Puig getting demoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City. When Puig returned in September he platooned with Reddick in right field.

Reddick struggled in the early going with the Dodgers, had some stretches of success, but overall was underwhelming in 47 games. He hit .258/.307/.335 with six doubles, two home runs and nine RBI.

Prior to the second half of 2016, Reddick had spent his previous seven seasons in the American League. Considering the Dodgers depth in the outfield and need to improve against left-handed pitching, it’s unlikely Reddick is re-signed.
