After the New York Mets traded David Robertson to the Miami Marlins and Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers, most anticipated they would explore deals involving Mark Canha, Tommy Pham and Justin Verlander in the final days leading up to the 3 p.m. PT deadline on Tuesday, August 1.
Unlike Pham, Canha and Verlander are both under team control through at least the 2024 season. Despite his age and significant salary remaining on a two-year, $86.66 million contract signed with the Mets prior to this season, Verlander is considered one of the top starters available at the trade deadline.
Meanwhile, Canha reportedly fielded interest from the Los Angeles Dodgers and other teams in search of a right-handed hitting outfielder.
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Mets traded Canha to the Milwaukee Brewers:

The Mets agreed to pay down Canha’s salary so that the Brewers are only responsible for the Major League minimum in 2023, and are receiving prospect Justin Jarvis, per Andy Martino of SNY:

After making his MLB debut with the Oakland Athletics and playing seven seasons for the club, Canha was in his second year with the Mets.
Canha regressed from his first year in New York, and batted .245/.343/.381 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 29 RBI over 89 games with the Mets this season. The 34-year-old provides the Brewers with some positional flexibility by being able to play first base, third base, left field and right field.
Canha’s contract includes a $11.5 million team option for 2024, which can be declined in favor $2 million buyout.
Mark Canha was reported Dodgers trade target
Even after trading for Kiké Hernández and Amed Rosario, the Dodgers have been said to be canvassing the market for a right-handed position player.
Although Canha is no longer an option, the Dodgers reportedly have interest in Pham as well, which could potentially be a factor in Verlander trade talks.
