MLB Rumors: Joc Pederson & Mookie Betts Trades Unlikely To Be Completed In ‘Original’ Forms

Three days have passed since the Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly reached an agreement in principle to acquire Mookie Betts and David Price as part of a three-team trade with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.

The deal reached an impasse when the Red Sox were reviewing the medicals of Twins pitching prospect Brusdal Graterol, whom they were to receive along with Alex Verdugo from the Dodgers. As a result, Boston has sought out additional compensation in the trade.

There’s been an overall sense of confidence the trade will eventually be completed, but how the teams may get there is unclear. One solution was L.A. acquiring a prospect in a separate trade to send to Boston, or the Dodgers and Red Sox proceeding with a trade only between themselves.

However it eventually takes shape, that deal, along with the Dodgers’ trade with the L.A. Angels, are expected to change forms, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic:

The trades are still alive, but likely will not be completed in their original, reported form due to concerns the Red Sox raised after viewing the medical records of Twins right-hander Brusdar Graterol, one of the two players they would receive for Betts and left-hander David Price.

The original agreement was viewed as a significant coup for the Dodgers. Not only were they adding a pitcher with World Series experience and the 2018 American League MVP, but the Red Sox agreed to pay around half of Price’s remaining $96 million salary, and L.A. was only parting with Verdugo and Kenta Maeda.

Meanwhile, a subsequent trade the Dodgers orchestrated called for Joc Pederson, Ross Stripling and Andy Pages to be sent to the L.A. Angels in exchange for Luis Rengifo plus one or two prospects.

Angels owner Arte Moreno has reportedly grown frustrated by the delay in their trade with the Dodgers, which conceivably could fall through if terms drastically change between L.A. and Boston.
