With the Baltimore Orioles currently sporting a Major League-worst 19-49 record, there has been speculation that the organization could look to make wholesale changes to their front office in the coming weeks.

Having only reached the postseason on three occasions since the 2012 season, the Orioles’ contention window has all but closed. The club, in particular, has been hampered by regression to key players, including first baseman Chris Davis.

Further complicating matters is Baltimore’s weak farm system and the inevitable departure of superstar shortstop, Manny Machado, this winter. That has led many to expect a summer selloff for the Orioles as an effort to recoup prospect value for their remaining assets.

The club has already begun conducting interviews for a prominent position in their front office, and among those to reportedly receive one is former Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti, via Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic:

#Orioles have interviewed former #Dodgers GM Ned Colletti for an executive position, sources tell The Athletic. Team also believed to be interviewing others, but have not asked permission to speak with anyone currently working for a club. Colletti is an analyst for SportsNet LA.

While the interviewing process is still in the early stages, it isn’t clear if a potential hiring of Colletti would have any effect to Baltimore’s current regime of executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette or manager Buck Showalter:

Unclear how quickly the #Orioles will act, if at all, and what impact would be on executive VP of baseball operations Dan Duquette and manager Buck Showalter. Not unprecedented for team to hire new top executive in middle of season. Did it with Andy MacPhail on June 20, 2007. https://t.co/rXzLj0s9cg

Colletti was named Dodgers general manager in 2005 and remained at the helm until his departure at the conclusion of the 2014 season. During that span, he led the organization to five postseason berths.

He is also responsible for drafting players like Clayton Kershaw, Corey Seager and Joc Pederson, signing Yasiel Puig and Zack Greinke and trading for the likes of Andre Ethier, Hanley Ramirez and Adrian Gonzalez.

Colletti has since served as a senior advisor to Dodgers president Stan Kasten, while additionally contributing as an analyst for SportsNet LA as well.
