MLB On Fox Saturday Game Of The Week: Dodgers-Braves In Rain Delay

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves were interrupted by inclement weather in the ninth inning on Friday night, and now are in a rain delay for Saturday’s game at Truist Park.

First pitch for the second game of their weekend series was originally scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m. PT. It’s being televised nationally by Fox.

The Braves have not yet announced a new start time. Friday’s rain delay, which occurred as the top of the ninth inning was due to begin, lasted 1 hour and 13 minutes.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said there was a commitment by both teams to playing Saturday in order to avoid a doubleheader, per Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Weather forecast is not favorable. But #Dodgers Dave Roberts said both teams are “prepared to hunker down” and get a game in tonight rather than split doubleheader Sunday. Not raining currently

Truist Park groundskeepers had a tarp covering the infield during Saturday morning but removed it several hours before the original start time.

Atlanta’s weather forecast indicates rain will clear the area around 9:30-10 p.m. local time. At best, that would amount to first pitch being delayed by 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The series finale is another national broadcast, with ESPN picking up the matchup for their weekly Sunday Night Baseball telecast.

Rain delays exacerbating Dodgers road trip

As it stood, Friday marked the start of the Dodgers’ longest road trip of the season at 10 games. Furthermore, they’re navigating the prolonged stretch away from Dodger Stadium without an off day.

Once they manage to get through the series in Atlanta, weather will no longer be a factor as the Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks have a roof on their respective stadiums.
