Shohei Ohtani has enjoyed two wildly successful seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers thus far, and he’s due to be celebrated by MLB Network on Wednesday.
Beginning at 6 a.m. PT, MLB Network is going to air a full day of programming that focuses on the two-way star. The “Shohei Day” tribute was aptly scheduled for Jan. 7, or 1/7, in recognition of Ohtani’s No. 17 jersey that he’s worn since making his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels in 2018.
MLB Network plans to put a spotlight some of Ohtani’s most memorable games by way of special studio segments, guest appearances, and original storytelling to be featured across their daily shows and social media accounts.
Shortly after winning a second consecutive World Series with the Dodgers, Ohtani earned a fourth unanimous MVP Award (two each in American League and National League), in addition to a fourth career AP Male Athlete of the Year recognition.
Ohtani is the only player in MLB history to have won MVP unanimously more than once. Ohtani also became the first player to win the MVP Award twice in both the AL and NL.
Among the games MLB Network is going to highlight is when Ohtani created the 50-50 club with an awe-inspiring performance against the Miami Marlins on Sept. 19, 2024.
MLB Network also is going to air “Best of Shohei,” an original two-hour special, beginning at 4 p.m. and featuring extended half-innings and full sequences from the most memorable moments of Ohtani’s career.
