With MLB eliminating the August waiver trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers were among the clubs to complete smaller moves by July 31 last year. One of which was to acquire veteran infielder Jedd Gyorko, who was on the 60-day injured list at the time of being traded.

The Dodgers traded Tony Cingrani and Minor League pitcher Jeffry Abreu to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for not only Gyorko, but international cap space and cash considerations as well. The 31-year-old was reinstated from the injured list on Aug. 18.

Gyorko had a minimal impact with the Dodgers and had his team option for 2021 declined in favor of a $1 million buyout.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the veteran infielder is returning to the National League Central as he’s agreed to a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers:

Despite being plagued by injuries throughout much of the 2019 season, Gyorko asserted he was in good health upon joining L.A. That proved to be true over a two-week long rehab assignment.

Gyorko went 2-for-4 in his debut with the Dodgers, but that represented his only multi-hit effort with the team. He batted just .139/.205/.167 with one double and two RBI in 39 plate appearances for the Dodgers (24 games).

Gyorko did have a memorable highlight with the team when he provided a go-ahead RBI single against the New York Mets in the top of the ninth inning of a September game at Citi Field.

But his overall lack of production, coupled with the Dodgers’ depth, led to Gyorko being left off the club’s active roster for the National League Division Series.
