After finishing their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ road trip continues as they face the New York Yankees in a weekend set that is going to be available nationally.
Apple TV+ is streaming the series opener for their weekly “Friday Night Baseball” programming, Fox is broadcasting Saturday’s matchup and the three-game finale is being carried by ESPN for “Sunday Night Baseball.”
Under normal circumstances, the Apple TV+ stream would be an exclusive broadcast. However, Friday’s game is also going to be televised by SportsNet LA and the YES Network.
According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, MLB is testing a new strategy by also allowing SportsNet LA and YES to carry their broadcasts alongside the Apple TV+ stream:
An executive with knowledge of Friday’s arrangement called it “an experiment” to try a co-existing presentation with the streamer nationally and the RSNs locally.
Fans who subscribe to Apple TV+ and live in Los Angeles and New York television markets, will have the option to stream the game rather than watching on one of the local regional sports networks.
Dodgers fans who opt for the “Friday Night Baseball” stream will hear a familiar voice as Dontrelle Willis is joining play-by-play man Wayne Randazzo in the booth. Per usual, Heidi Watney is working as the reporter.
Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser are calling the game on SportsNet LA. Davis then will handle play-by-play for the Fox national telecast on Saturday.
Friday is the Dodgers’ second appearance on Apple this season. Their next “Friday Night Baseball” game is July 26 for a road matchup with the Houston Astros.
