With 28 games remaining, the Los Angeles Dodgers (87-47) need to go just 7-21 the rest of the way in order to surpass their preseason win total of 93.5 posted at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Baseball bettors who took the OVER on the Dodgers should rest easy knowing that future wager is as close to a lock as any other on the board.
After finishing at 92-70 a year ago, Los Angeles is tied for MLB’s best record with the New York Yankees (87-47), who also look like an easy bet to finish OVER their preseason total of 96.5. The Yankees and Houston Astros (86-47) were tied for the highest preseason win total of any team with 96.5, and the latter appears to be in line to cash for OVER bettors too.
New York and Houston are battling for the top seed in the American League and would like to earn home-field advantage throughout the playoffs as well.
The Dodgers will have something to say about that though, as they are hoping that will be the difference as they attempt to win a World Series if they can take home a third straight National League pennant.
They are an impressive 52-18 at home this season, and the Astros are the only other team that has 50 or more wins in their own ballpark right now. Houston beat Los Angeles in Game 7 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium two years ago, so it will be interesting to see what happens if they meet again this year.
Another NL team that should easily go OVER their preseason win total is the Atlanta Braves (80-54) at 86.5 at online betting sites as the current leaders of the NL East. However, that division has been disappointing as a whole, with the Washington Nationals (73-58), Philadelphia Phillies (68-63) and New York Mets (67-64) all sitting further back in the standings.
Of that group, the Nationals have a fairly decent shot to go over 88.5 wins, but the Phillies (89.5) and Mets (85.5) will have a more difficult challenge going down the stretch.
In the NL West, the Colorado Rockies (59-74) have been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this season after going 91-61 in 2018. The Rockies currently reside in the division’s cellar and will need to go 26-3 to go OVER their preseason win total of 84.5 wins, which seems like an impossible feat.
