When the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired Miguel Rojas from the Miami Marlins, they knew they were getting a veteran leader to take on a utility role with the team this season.
But perhaps what the Dodgers didn’t know is that they were also getting someone who is willing to help craft the organization’s future.
During an appearance on Jomboy Media’s “The Chris Rose Rotation,” Rojas revealed he’s already been in touch with Miguel Vargas about helping him defensively:
“I already reached out to a couple of guys that I think I can help. They have a young phenom that is going to be part of the mix as well, I’m understanding, Miguel Vargas. He’s Cuban, he’s living in Miami, and we already have been in touch. He reached out and said he wants to work with me on defense.”
In addition to Vargas, Rojas has also talked with fellow top Dodgers prospect Diego Cartaya:
“I’ve been in contact with the catcher that is in the organization that is a big prospect from Venezuela. Working out here in Miami as well. Diego Cartaya reached out to me as well. I’m going to be working with those kids, being able to help them in any way that I can. I just want to make us better.”
Vargas, who made his MLB debut and played in 18 games with the Dodgers last season, appears primed to take on a larger role with the team this year. Vargas has experience at various positions and especially look to Rojas for guidance in regards to providing value across the diamond.
Although Cartaya has only advanced to High-A Great Lakes thus far, the 21-year-old is regarded as one of the top prospects in baseball.
As the 2023 season moves closer and Rojas continues to get once again acclimated with the Dodgers organization, his motivation to already begin to help shape L.A.’s future offers a positive indication of what the team’s time with him will offer.
Dodgers prospect Michael Busch ranked by MLB Pipeline
According to the latest rankings from MLB Pipeline, Michael Busch was ranked the No. 2 second baseman prospect in all of the baseball, behind only Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Termarr Johnson.
Ranked as the fourth-best prospect within the Dodgers organization in 2022, the 25-year-old collected a .274/.365/.516 slash line between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City last year while collecting 70 extra base hits, including 32 home runs.
