The Los Angeles Dodgers (75-46) struggled in winning the first two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this week before blowing them out in the series finale on Wednesday. Next the Dodgers welcome the New York Mets (60-60) to Chavez Ravine as heavy opening -263 home favorites on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com, riding a six-game winning streak into the opener of a four-game set starting Thursday after sweeping them on the road just last weekend (how sports betting works).

Los Angeles defeated Pittsburgh by only one run on both Monday and Tuesday prior to a 9-0 rout on Wednesday behind five RBI from National League MVP candidate Max Muncy, whose two hits were home runs. Meanwhile, New York actually helped its opponent earlier Wednesday as well with a 6-2 victory at the San Francisco Giants to end a five-game losing streak.

Kevin Pillar was the hero for the Mets with a three-run home run in the 12th inning to cut the Giants’ NL West lead over the Dodgers to three games paired with the latter’s easy win later in the day.

New York has still fallen 4.5 games back for the lead in the NL East over the past week due to a strong surge from the Atlanta Braves, who have put together a six-game winning streak too. The Mets will send Taijuan Walker (7-7, 3.75 ERA) to the hill opposite a starting pitcher yet to be named for the home team in the opener.

Walker pitched well against Los Angeles last Saturday in an eventual 2-1 loss in 10 innings, allowing one run and two hits in 6.2 innings with three walks and eight strikeouts. But he has gone 3-5 on the road this year with a 4.53 ERA.

Walker Buehler (12-2, 2.09 ERA) will then get the nod for the Dodgers in the second game of the series on Friday followed by Max Scherzer (10-4, 2.69 ERA) on Saturday and David Price (4-1, 3.62 ERA) on Sunday. Scherzer picked up the victory in last Sunday’s finale, giving up two runs and four hits in six innings with two walks and seven strikeouts to stay perfect with Los Angeles at 2-0.

Including last weekend’s sweep, the Dodgers have won the past four meetings along with seven of the last eight. The total has been much less predictable lately in this series though, with the UNDER going 3-2 in the previous five games at online betting sites between the teams following an impressive 6-1 OVER run between 2018 and 2019.
