Max Muncy Wants To Win World Series At Dodger Stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers captured back-to-back World Series titles last year when they outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays in a winner-take-all Game 7 at Rogers Centre.

The Dodgers now have their sights on becoming baseball’s first three-peat champion since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees, but there is something else they want to accomplish.

Max Muncy said it is his goal to win a World Series in front of Dodgers fans at Dodger Stadium, via Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times:

“I would love to win at home,” Muncy said. “We haven’t done that yet. It would be ideal to do that.”

The Dodgers’ current run of two consecutive World Series championships saw them win the deciding games in New York and Toronto, respectively. L.A. has won only one World Series-clinching game at Dodger Stadium, which came in 1963 when they swept the New York Yankees.

The Dodgers were the designated home team when they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2020 World Series at Globe Life Field due to MLB moving most of the postseason to the neutral site.

It has become somewhat of a rare feat for a team to win the World Series at home. Over the last 10 years, the only team to do so was the Houston Astros in 2022.

While it won’t be an easy task, the Dodgers certainly hope to change that this year.

Dave Roberts gets ‘nervous’ thinking about Dodgers’ three-peat

While many around baseball have discussed the possibility of the Dodgers winning back-to-back-to-back World Series titles, manager Dave Roberts previously said the mere thought of that makes him anxious.

Roberts’ nerves are justified as the Dodgers are flirting with a feat that has only been accomplished four other times in MLB history. The only franchises to win at least three World Series titles in a row are the Yankees (1936-39, 1949-53, 1998-2000) and Oakland Athletics (1972-74).

Not only can the Dodgers put themselves into that rare group this year but they also would become the first National League team to win three consecutive championships. The Cincinnati Reds are the only team that came close when they won back-to-back World Series from 1975-76.

Overall, it would represent the Dodgers’ 10th title as a franchise and break a tie with the Boston Red Sox and A’s for third-most in MLB history. The Yankees lead all teams with 27 World Series championships, followed by the St. Louis Cardinals having 11.
