Max Muncy is among multiple players who embody how challenging of a season the Los Angeles Dodgers have had this year.
Muncy has been productive when on the field, but he’s battled various injuries and ailments during the season. It’s included two separate stints on the injured list, though in both cases Muncy managed to avoid a worst-case scenario.
But he has also dealt with minor injuries, such being hit by a pitch in his right wrist and head just over a week ago.
The latest problem ailing Muncy is leg bruising, which resulted from another hit by pitch while playing against the San Francisco Giants, according to Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:
Muncy, meanwhile, revealed Friday that he has been battling some leg bruising, which was at least in part the result of a hit-by-pitch he took to his lower half last week against the San Francisco Giants.
Muncy was not in the lineup for the series opener against the Seattle Mariners on Friday, but he is not worried about his availability for the Wild Card Series. Muncy said he’ll be ready to go for the Dodgers’ first playoff game on Sept. 30:
“It’s just trying to be smart about a couple things,” Muncy said. “Just trying to manage all of that, stay on top of that and hopefully clean all that up.”
Kiké Hernández started at third base in place of Muncy and hit a home run in the Dodgers’ comeback win. Muncy has missed the last two games and it’s not known if he’ll be in the lineup before the regular season concludes.
Max Muncy: Dodgers’ 2025 NL West title ‘sweeter’
For all of the Dodgers struggles in 2025, they still ended up winning the National League West and are headed back to October for a 13th consecutive year. Overcoming all the hardship has made for a more enjoyable celebration in Muncy’s opinion.
Muncy added that Clayton Kershaw’s retirement announcement has also given this specific division title a special feeling.
“This one kind of means a lot,” Muncy said. “We’ve gone through a lot and then Kersh announced it’s going to be his last one, so this one feels a little bit sweeter. I’ve been through a lot of these, but this one feels really special.”
