Max Muncy: Dodgers Need To Forget About Troubles & ‘Compete’

The Los Angeles Dodgers offense continued to struggle in a 7-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Mother’s Day.

It was a near repeat of Saturday’s game as the Dodgers had just one hit through the first seven innings following some early struggles from their starting pitcher. This time it was Justin Wrobleski, who still managed to save the bullpen by logging a career-high 8.2 innings.

The Dodgers have now dropped seven of their last 11 games, scoring two runs or fewer in seven of them.

“I think it’s a rough stretch for us,” Max Muncy said of the Dodgers’ recent struggles at the plate. “Obviously, we are facing tough pitching, and they’re making pitches. But I think for us as a group, we’re just going through a rough stretch. And that’s part of baseball.

“We had some guys hit some balls hard, and we had some guys hitting the ball soft, and none of them seemed to fall. That’s just kind of how the game goes sometimes.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently said the offense hasn’t felt like a cohesive unit at times, which Muncy agreed with before calling on his teammates to forget about their troubles and just play.

“I think we have some guys that aren’t in the spot that they want to be in right now, and they’re trying to figure that out,” Muncy began. “It’s kind of tough to compete when you’re trying to figure things out.

“We’ve preached that in the past sometimes, that you’ve got to just forget about everything you’re doing off the field, and when you get in the batter’s box, you just have to compete.

“That’s probably something we’re going to harp on a little bit again right now, because there are a lot of guys trying to just find some mechanics. And it’s hard to hit when you’re doing that.”

While the Dodgers offense has struggled, they are hoping to get a boost for Monday’s series opener against the San Francisco Giants when Mookie Betts is activated off the 10-day injured list.

Max Muncy among Dodgers struggling

Muncy provided the Dodgers’ only offense on Sunday with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. That represented his only hit against the Braves after getting robbed of a potential double in his previous at-bat.

Muncy, like many of his teammates, has slumped over the past two weeks or so. He’s batting just .206/.325/.353 with three extra-base hits and four RBI in 11 games during the span.
