The Seattle Marines claimed right-handed pitcher Eduardo Salazar off of waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, they announced on Thursday. Salazar was designated for assignment by the Dodgers after making one appearance with the Major League team on May 15.
Salazar was signed by the Dodgers at the end of the 2023 season and spent the offseason with the organization. He went through big league Spring Training before beginning 2024 with Triple-A Oklahoma City. There, he posted a 5.61 ERA and 1.752 WHIP in 33.2 innings over seven starts.
The Dodgers brought Salazar up as injuries continued to strike the Major League bullpen. And that is when he was given a chance to pitch two innings against the San Francisco Giants on May 15. He finished out a losing effort by tossing two frames, giving up three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
After allowing the five baserunners but not allowing an earned run — one unearned — the Dodgers decided to move forward with other options and designated Salazar for assignment. They could not find a trade for him before being claimed by the Mariners on Thursday.
Salazer, 26, is in his second Major League campaign. He spent six seasons climbing through the ranks of the Cincinnati Reds organization after being an international signing in 2017. He finally got to the Majors in 2023 with the Reds, where he struggled.
He posted an 8.03 ERA and 1.703 WHIP in 12.1 innings, totaling 16 hits, five strikeouts, five walks and 11 earned runs.
Dodgers lose Nabil Crismatt to Rangers
Nabil Crismatt signed a Minor League deal with the Texas Rangers on Wednesday after being outrighted by the Dodgers over the weekend and electing free agency.
Crismatt had limited appearances with the Dodgers, allowing two earned runs over seven innings with six strikeouts. During his Dodgers tenure, he was mostly an organizational depth piece and was only called upon when the Major League club was in need for fresh arms.
Crismatt bounced around between Triple-A Oklahoma City and the Dodgers several times already this season and never really had a long-term role outside of that.
This move makes a lot of sense for Crismatt as it will give him a chance to earn a permanent spot in a Major League bullpen with another team without the fear of being sent back down to the Minors.
