Los Angeles Dodgers Paternity List For 2023 Season

Los Angeles Dodgers players had chemistry on the field during the 2022 season which led to a record 111-win season, and many seem to have been on the same page off the field as well.

It has been roughly nine months since last year’s All-Star break, and so far this season, five members of the 2022 Dodgers roster have already gone on the paternity list within the last week, with another expected to take a leave soon.

The Dodgers’ wives also threw a baby shower for the expecting mothers on April 11 at Dodger Stadium.

MLB roster rules state a player that goes on the paternity list is required to miss a minimum of one day but can’t be away from the team for more than three days, which has caused a lot of roster shuffling for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers baby boom is reminiscent of when six members of the team got married after the 2017 season. In just three months, Ross Stripling, Alex Wood, Justin Turner, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Joc Pederson and Austin Barnes all become newlyweds.

Mookie Betts

Mookie Betts started it off when he was placed on the paternity list on April 18. He ended up missing two games before returning in a bench role on April 20.

Betts’ wife Brianna Betts gave birth to a son, Kaj Lynn Betts, on April 18.

Evan Phillips

Evan Phillips was placed on paternity leave on April 20, which was the same day his wife Elizabeth Phillips gave birth to their son, Beau Gray Phillips.

The Dodgers’ transactions log indicated the right-handed relief pitcher had been transferred to the bereavement list during his time away, but in actuality, it was family emergency leave. Elizabeth revealed in her Instagram post that Beau was born prematurely and went to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Phillips rejoined the team on April 25 after missing the four games at Wrigley Field.

Brusdar Graterol

When Phillips was activated, Brusdar Graterol was immediately placed on paternity leave. He and his wife, Allison Graterol, announced the birth of their daughter, Aria.

Graterol returned on April 28.

Max Muncy

Max Muncy joined Graterol on paternity leave, beginning April 25. His wife Kellie Muncy gave birth to their son Wyatt James Muncy on April 24. It was a Dodgers’ off-day, which provided Muncy an extra day to spend with his family.

Like Graterol, Muncy rejoined the Dodgers for the series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Caleb Ferguson

Caleb Ferguson was the last of the Dodgers to go on the paternity list, with his stint beginning May 9. Ferguson returned to the team three days later.

Cody Bellinger

Although he is no longer on the Dodgers roster, Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger was also placed on paternity leave on April 25 for the birth of his daughter. Bellinger and his girlfriend Chase Carter welcomed their first child into the world in November 2021.
