The Los Angeles Dodgers are set up to have an active free agency period, with a need for outfield and bullpen help.
In addition to their own Major League free agents, the Dodgers also have decisions to make on Minor League players who are no longer under contract.
Of the Dodgers Minor League free agents, the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets lead the way with 12, followed by the Double-A Tulsa Drillers with four, and High-A Great Lakes Loons with one.
Breaking the list down even further, there are 11 relievers, one starter, four infielders and one outfielder.
Giovanny Gallegos and Michael Grove have more Major League experience than any other player on this list. In fact, only five others have even made their MLB debut.
Gallegos has six years of service time and has found solid Major League success, with a career 3.49 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 10.62 strike outs per nine innings. He signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers last offseason with an invitation to Spring Training.
The right-hander was assigned to the Comets at the start of the season, but never appeared in a game due to injury. He was eventually placed on the full-season injured list on July 17.
Grove was a second-round draft pick by the Dodgers in the 2018 MLB Draft who made his way to the Majors in 2022. He is one of only three players drafted by the Dodgers in this batch of free agents. Four other players on this list signed with the team as an international free agent.
Grove had his moments as a reliever with the Dodgers during the 2024 season, but largely struggled in the Majors. He suffered a shoulder injury during the National League Division Series last season and was removed from the postseason roster. The 28-year-old missed the entire 2025 season as he recovered from right shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.
The Dodgers outrighted Grove to the Comets on Thursday, but he had the choice to elect free agency because of his three years of MLB service time.
Kody Hoese is the most high-profile name on this list, as the Dodgers’ first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. Hoese’s performance in his first four professional seasons didn’t live up to where the Dodgers drafted him, but he has put together two solid seasons with the Comets since making his Triple-A debut in 2024.
Christian Suarez has been a part of the Dodgers’ organization since singing as an international free agent in 2019. He was the most trusted reliever for the Drillers in 2025. In his first full season in Double-A, the left-hander led the bullpen in appearances, innings pitched and strikeouts.
He should be a player the Dodgers look to bring back on a new contract.
Logan Boyer was fourth on the Comets in 2025 with 51 strikeouts but struggled with walks and allowing hits. He had a career-worst 6.50 walks per nine innings and opponents had a .293 batting average against him.
Jeisson Cabrera played his first full season in Double-A at 27 years old. He showed enough promise to earn another contract from the Dodgers, with a 3.71 ERA, 11.13 strikeouts per nine and .192 batting average against.
Sam Carlson, Kyle Funkhouser, Joel Ibarra, Justin Jarvis, Kelvin Bautista and Zach Penrod all struggled to various degrees in 2025. Of this group, Ibarra has the best chance to be bought back. He is only 23 years old and had a good season with the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2023.
Of the remaining position players, bringing back Jose Ramos is a no-brainer. The 24-year-old slashed .295/.359/.557 in 44 games for the Comets this past season. He’s had success in his Minor League career overall, hitting .254/.338/.445 with 107 doubles and 92 home runs.
The potential losses of Chris Okey, Luken Baker, CJ Alexander could be replaced via other means. But Baker and Alexander played well with the Comets after joining the team mid-season.
