With Major League Baseball hoping for a return to normalcy, it released a full 2021 regular season schedule which for the Los Angeles Dodgers has Opening Day on April 1 against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. It marks the first time since 2016 the Dodgers open the season on the road.
The Dodgers’ preliminary 2021 schedule includes Interleague play against the American League, which will amount to facing the Houston Astros in back-to-back years. The first of those matchups come when the Dodgers head to Minute Maid Park for a two-game series from May 25-26. The Astros then visit Dodger Stadium from Aug. 3-4.
In addition to matchups with the Astros, Interleague play for L.A. features series against the Angels, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers. The Freeway Series will first be played at Angel Stadium from May 7-9, then at Dodger Stadium from Aug. 6-8.
The Dodgers’ home opener comes April 9, 2021, with the start of a three-game series against the Washington Nationals. The first homestand of the 2021 season will entail the Dodgers playing at home on Jackie Robinson Day (April 15) as they wrap up a three-game set with the Rockies.
The Dodgers will be on the road for several holidays, including Mother’s Day (@ Angels), Father’s Day (@ Arizona Diamondbacks) and Fourth of July (@ Nationals). The Dodgers are home for Memorial Day, when they begin a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Although it includes a series in Anaheim, the Dodgers’ longest road trip is 10 games, spanning from April 29-May 9. They will face the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs and Angels, and have one day off during that time. The Dodgers play nine consecutive home games from May 11-20.
The 2021 season will be the first opportunity for fans to enjoy a newly renovated Dodger Stadium. The $100 million project included the installation of more elevators and escalators, overhauled pavilions area and new center field plaza area.
The Dodgers were approved to welcome fans at Dodger Stadium in a reduced capacity for the start of the 2021 season.
