The Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked to outfielder Kyle Tucker dating back to the regular season, and for good reason. The Dodgers’ outfield was a significant issue last season, along with their bullpen, that has already been addressed with the signing of Edwin Díaz.
While the Dodgers are interested in adding the left-handed bat to their lineup, it has been reported that they would only explore doing so for the right price.
Their preference is rumored to be a short-term deal with a high average annual value (AAV).
It has been more recently reported that the Dodgers are aggressively pursuing Tucker, though that doesn’t necessarily mean they have changed their minds on a short-term deal.
The New York Mets are also making a strong push for the outfielder, but the Toronto Blue Jays are the Dodgers’ biggest threat. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Blue Jays are considered the favorite despite already making a couple of splash moves this winter:
Two industry sources still tabbed the Blue Jays as Tucker’s likely destination, even after Toronto signed infielder Kazuma Okamoto to a four-year, $60 million deal last week.
The 2025 World Series runners-up have not been afraid to spend money this offseason after coming agonizingly close to a championship. They signed Dylan Cease to a massive contract and the aforementioned addition of Japanese star Kazuma Okamoto.
Any agreement with Tucker would certainly put Toronto’s payroll well over $300 million for 2026.
Tucker is coming off a solid season with the Cubs that saw him hit .266/.377/.464 with 25 doubles, four triples, 22 home runs, 73 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 597 plate appearances across 136 games.
Kyle Tucker prefers to stay out of the spotlight
Tucker has been one of the most productive players in baseball over the last few years and was projected to command a contract of at least $400 million.
His slow-moving market opened the door for accepting a short-term deal in the hopes of having another shot at free agency. It is rumored that he likes the idea of not being the center of attention on a team, and that could benefit the Dodgers.
However, the Blue Jays also have a star-studded roster that would take pressure off Tucker.
