The Los Angeles Dodgers traveled to Toronto on Wednesday as they prepare for the 2025 World Series, but they may be without one of their top relievers when the Fall Classic begins, as Alex Vesia is currently away from the team.
The Dodgers announced Alex and his wife Kayla are dealing with a family matter, but did not provide any other specifics. Kayla and Alex previously announced in April they were expecting their first child, and she was due around this time.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” The Dodgers said in a statement. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the Dodgers are going “day-to-day with really no expectations” on Vesia being available for the World Series. They are currently considering their options on how to construct the roster and Vesia’s potential availability for it.
“I think right now, we’re in the mode of trying to understand the process, the rules, a way that we could sort of try to navigate the roster,” Roberts said. “So I think we have a little bit of time — I think 10 o’clock tomorrow or something like that — to finalize our roster. But, yeah, we’re going through the process of trying to backfill his spot on the roster.”
Vesia has appeared in seven postseason games this year, tossing 4.2 innings with a 3.86 ERA, four strikeouts and a 1.29 WHIP. He was one of four Dodgers relieves to appear in the National League Championship Series, and after allowing two runs in his first outing in the Wild Card, he had tossed six consecutive scoreless appearances.
Dodgers roster options without Alex Vesia?
If the Dodgers are without Vesia for the World Series, they will likely add another pitcher, rather than replacing him with a position player. Some of their available options include Tanner Scott, Will Klein, Kyle Hurt and Edgardo Henriquez.
The Dodgers were already previously considering making one roster change, which likely would have been one of the right-handed relievers, given the Blue Jays’ heavy right-handed lineup, while removing a lefty, such as Justin Wrobleski.
Although Scott feels ready to go, the Dodgers are still waiting on final medical clearance for him.
