When Is The 2022 MLB All-Star Game At Dodger Stadium?

When the Los Angeles Dodgers were awarded the 2020 MLB All-Star Game it meant Dodger Stadium would host the annual event for the first time since 1980. However, the 40th anniversary passed without the Midsummer Classic being played due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In its place, the Los Angeles Dodgers were named hosts for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. The Atlanta Braves had long been named the recipient of the 2021 Midsummer Classic at the time of the change, though it was eventually moved to Coors Field in response to restrictive voting laws.

With preliminary 2022 regular-season schedules out for all clubs, with that came officially setting Tuesday, July 19, as the date for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium.

The 2022 MLB Futures Game will also be played at Dodger Stadium, taking place on Sunday, July 17. The Home Run Derby is scheduled for the following night.

The Dodgers begin their All-Star break on Sunday, and one day after concluding a two-game Freeway Series in Anaheim. The Dodgers also will remain in Southern California coming out of the All-Star break as they begin a seven-game homestand on Thursday, July 20.

The Dodgers and San Francisco Giants will have the MLB spotlight to themselves as the only teams in action that night when they open a four-game series at Chavez Ravine.

MLB All-Star Game history at Dodger Stadium

Since Dodger Stadium last hosted an All-Star Game in 1980 — the only in its history — a California team has held it seven times: California/L.A. Angels (1989, 2010), San Diego Padres (1992, 2016) and San Francisco Giants (1984, 2007). Furthermore, nine teams have twice played host during that same stretch.

The Dodgers franchise has previously hosted a Midsummer Classic in 1949 (Ebbets Field) and 1959 (Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum).

“It’s going to be special,” manager Dave Roberts recently said of the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. “And I tell you, the Rockies and the City of Denver did a fantastic job. Just kind of facilitating and hosting the Home Run Derby, the game itself, all the accommodations were fantastic.

“But with next year, the City of Los Angeles, it’s obviously — it’s a long time coming and I know our city is going to do it right with the help of the Dodgers and it’s going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait. I hope I get to manage next year.”
