Tyler Glasnow’s Family Was ‘Super Excited’ By Dodgers’ Trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers addressed their starting rotation in a big way with the acquisition of Tyler Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this offseason.

When healthy, the right-hander is one of the most talented pitchers in Major League Baseball, and his addition gives the team a bonafide ace, along with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller.

Glasnow, a Southern California native, said it was a longtime dream to play for the Dodgers, and his family is just as excited that he will be able to pitch closer to home.

“They’re super excited,” Glasnow said of his parents’ reaction to the trade. “My parents live in Arizona now, my brother and his wife live in Santa Barbara, but I have a lot of cousins in Santa Clarita still and a lot of friends.

“It’s just been overwhelming. Everyone has reached out, said a lot of nice stuff. My family is ecstatic. They were like, ‘Get a big house so we can all come stay with you.’

“I’m sure I’m going to see them a lot. It’ll be an awesome experience to play for my dream team, see my family more and not be across the country more.”

Glasnow grew up going to Dodger Stadium and is looking forward to making his first start at the ballpark in a Dodgers uniform. “It’s definitely on my mind,” he said.

“When I was a kid and I’d go to games, I remember sitting in the stands and looking at the players in the dugout and just having overwhelming jealously. Like, ‘I have to go to school tomorrow and you guys get to play baseball.’

“So the fact that it’s come full circle, when I first get to start there, it definitely gives me butterflies. I’m extremely excited to make my first start at home as a Dodger.”

Glasnow added that he went to many Dodgers games as a kid and remembers every detail of Dodger Stadium. “We’d go as much as possible, but like anyone else in L.A., the traffic was always pretty crazy,” he said.

“We lived relatively far in Santa Clarita, so it could be like an hour to three hours. So we’d go as much as possible, and if my friends had tickets, we’d always try to go.

“We were kind of the typical, show up in the second and leave in the seventh, just because getting across from Santa Clarita was pretty gnarly. But every time I went it was insane. I think even to this day, walking into the stadium, you get the feels, you feel the energy of everything, and the music there with a huge speaker in center.

“You remember things as a little kid, they looked so crazy, extremely large and overwhelming. And then even as an adult going there, being like, ‘This is such a huge show.’

“It’s always been one of my favorite places to play, so I’m excited to go back there and soak it all up again.”

Tyler Glasnow contract extension

The Dodgers signed Glasnow to a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension that reportedly included converting a portion of his 2024 salary into a signing bonus.

Glasnow will receive $30 million each season from 2025-2027, and the Dodgers hold a $30 million team option for 2028. Should they decline it, that becomes a player option for Glasnow at $21.5 million.
