Hours after Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team had pitchers who weren’t “feeling great,” Tyler Glasnow was placed on the 15-day injured list because of right elbow tendinitis.

Prior to that point, Glasnow had already been pushed back for his next start in order to receive an extra day of rest. It initially was believed that decision stemmed from the Dodgers being in the midst of playing 13 games in a row without a day off.

Despite Glasnow going on the injured list for a second time this season, Roberts voiced optimism he would recover after missing the minimum 15 days.

That sentiment was echoed by Glasnow, via Mike DiGiovanna of the L.A. Times:

“I feel fine now — I think that’s the most frustrating thing,” Glasnow said. “I didn’t want to go onto IL, but the decision was made. Maybe I’m not logically thinking or something, but I feel fine. I just think their main priority, like I said, is the postseason.”

Roberts told reporters after the Dodgers’ win on Friday that Glasnow lobbied to make his start because an MRI and additional testing did not show any structural damage in his right elbow. The Dodgers instead chose to prioritize health and the stretch run.

With Glasnow on the IL, the Dodgers recalled Bobby Miller to start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Miller struggled this season and didn’t fare much better with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he presumably will stick in the Dodgers rotation for the time being.

Glasnow has been the ace of the Dodgers rotation this season, posting a 3.49 ERA, 2.91 FIP and 0.95 WHIP in 134 innings pitched. He’s already set a new career high, which previously was 120 innings last year for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Tyler Glasnow’s injuries

Glasnow’s first time going on the injured list this season was in July because of lower back tightness. It prevented him from making a final start before the All-Star break, but there wasn’t any concern over the minor injury.

Glasnow was activated on July 24 and made four starts before his right elbow became an issue. Despite the confidence that it won’t be a long-term matter, it nevertheless is somewhat concerning when factoring in Glasnow’s injury history.

Though, he and the Dodgers emphasized during the offseason that Glasnow’s right elbow was no longer an issue since undergoing the internal brace Tommy John surgery in June 2021.
