Trea Turner is easily the headliner among current Los Angeles Dodgers free agents, as he’s part of a star-studded group of shortstops on the open market.

In addition to Turner, Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts and Dansby Swanson are top shortstops available as well. The Dodgers have interest in re-signing Turner, and they have additionally been linked to Correa and Swanson.

The general belief is the Dodgers prefer to re-sign Turner, but that isn’t considered a likely outcome.

According to Juan Toribio of MLB.com, the Dodgers nonetheless have maintained communication with Turner in free agency:

The Dodgers have been in contact with Trea Turner and those conversations are expected to continue throughout the offseason, but the reality is starting to sink in that Turner likely won’t be playing in Los Angeles in 2023.

Despite the 29-year-old expressing a willingness to play in Los Angeles, the prevailing belief is his preference is to return to the East Coast.

The Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants have been among the teams mentioned with reported interest in Turner.

Dodgers compensation if not signing Trea Turner

Because Turner rejected the $19.65 million qualifying offer for 2023, the Dodgers would receive a compensation pick after the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft if he signs with another club.

L.A. has already netted an additional draft pick due to Tyler Anderson declining the qualifying offer before signing a three-year, $39 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
