Teoscar Hernández: Dodgers Focus To Not ‘Give Away At-Bats’

The Los Angeles Dodgers have proven capable of impressive comebacks for multiple seasons, and this year that’s included Teoscar Hernández often being at the center of them with clutch at-bats.

Hernández most recently delivered a walk-off base hit against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and prior to that slugged a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning at Coors Field.

The 31-year-old has openly discussed welcoming — if not relishing — those key situational at-bats.

Hernández also noted the Dodgers lineup as a whole prioritizes putting pressure on opposing pitchers with every at-bat, via Juan Toribio of MLB.com:

“We always talk about it here in the clubhouse: Don’t give away at-bats,” said Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández. “Fight through the at-bats, see a lot of pitches and try to get a good one.”

Hernández’s home run against the Colorado Rockies capped off an improbable comeback as the Dodgers entered the ninth inning with just a 0.5% win probability.

It was the Dodgers’ first comeback win when trailing by five or more runs in the ninth inning since moving to Los Angeles in 1958, and only the sixth such victory in franchise history.

Teoscar Hernández hopes to re-sign with Dodgers

Hernández has enjoyed a very productive first season with the Dodgers and hopes to make L.A. his long-term home. The team presumably would be open to a contract extension but there have not been any indications of talks being held during the season.

Hernández is among the six Dodgers All-Stars for 2024 and has expressed a desire to participate in the Home Run Derby as well. The All-Star Game selection was Hernández’s second of his career.
