Tampa Bay Rays Rumors: Randy Arozarena Trade Possible

While there is a significant focus on Shohei Ohtani, along with Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and more starting pitchers being available in free agency, several executives have suggested the trade market could be plenty active this offseason as well.

Thus far the likes of Shane Bieber, Willy Adames, Corbin Burnes, Dylan Cease, Juan Soto and Tyler Glasnow have been among the players who may be avaialble.

The Los Angeles Dodgers in particular have been connected to Adames, Burnes and Cease.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays are open to potentially trading Randy Arozarena and have already discussed him with the Seattle Mariners, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network:

The Mariners and Rays are trade partners to watch in Nashville this week.

They have spoken about Isaac Paredes, as I reported earlier today.

The Mariners have since agreed to trade Jarred Kelenic, Marco Gonzales and Evan White to the Atlanta Braves for Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips

Arozarena is under team control via arbitration through the 2026 season. MLB Trade Rumors projected Arozarena to receive a $9 million salary in 2024. He would then be in line for raises in each of the two seasons that followed.

Although the Rays are a small-market team that has often operated with finances in mind, Arozarena’s projected salaries are not astronomical figures and thus a trade is not considered absolutely necessary.

That’s in contrast to the situation with Glasnow, who is due to receive a $25 million salary next season as part of a two-year, $30.35 million contract extension he signed. Thus, it’s believed the Rays are more likely to trade Glasnow than Arozarena during the offseason.

Dodgers could trade for Randy Arozarena & Tyler Glasnow

With the Dodgers in need of pitching and reportedly looking to add an outfielder as well, they conceivably line up well as a trade partner for the Rays.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman previously oversaw the Rays’ front office, and he historically has demonstrated a willingness — if not preference — to expand trades beyond acquiring just one player.
