The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their Cactus League Matchup against the Cincinnati Reds, 7-1, as their bats were unable to string anything together.

Julio Urías made his 2023 Cactus League debut and was effective, throwing past his scheduled two innings. He allowed a leadoff single to start the game but retired the next three batters.

After a perfect second inning, he returned to the mound for the third inning, where he faced three batters, allowing a leadoff single and then picking up two strikeouts. Justin Hagenman was called on to replace Urias and promptly allowed a double to Tyler Stephenson that put the Reds up 1-0 before he finished the inning.

Noah Syndergaard then came on to pitch for the first time in a Dodgers uniform in the fourth inning and struck out two hitters in a perfect frame. His second inning wasn’t as clean, but he still escaped with another scoreless inning despite allowing a single, stolen base and a throwing error from Miguel Rojas at shortstop.

Rojas picked up the Dodgers’ first hit of the game in the fifth inning, but they left two runners on base. To that point, only Freddie Freeman and David Peralta had reached on walks.

Chris Taylor singled for the Dodgers’ second hit of the game in the sixth inning, but they were unable to get anything else going.

Jake Reed and Justin Bruihl each pitched a scoreless inning, but the Reds added another run in the eighth inning when Nick Solak homered off Jordan Yamamoto. Henry Ramos then doubled to center field before Jason Vosler Walked and Ramos reached third on a wild pitch.

A throwing error from Yamamoto then allowed Ramos to score while Vosler advanced to second, and that was followed by another wild pith as Vosler moved up 90 feet again.

Rubby De La Rosa replaced Yamamoto, and he quickly got Michael Siani to ground out, however, it allowed a run to cross, giving the Reds a three-run eighth inning.

The Dodgers had a bit of a rally going when Jonny DeLuca was hit by a pitch and Ryan Ward walked before Andy Pages singled to break the Reds’ shutout. However, they left two on base to end the inning when James Outman grounded out.

The Reds added another three run in the ninth against Bryan Hudson, who allowed a walk, stolen base, a double and two singles.

Bradley Zimmer doubled with one out in the ninth for the Dodgers first extra-base hit of the game, and Luke Williams walked, but the Dodgers were unable to capitalize.

MRI reveals torn ACL for Gavin Lux

Before the start of the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Gavin Lux suffered a torn ACL.

Lux sustained the injury during the sixth inning of Monday’s game against the San Diego Padres. He attempted to avoid a throw while running from second base to third base, and stumbled to the ground in the process.

The shortstop is set to undergo surgery on March 7 and is expected to miss the 2023 season.
