The Los Angeles Dodgers again were unable to maintain an early lead and settled for a 2-2 tie against the Chicago Cubs. They remained winless three games into their 2022 Spring Training schedule, though only have one loss.

James Outman produced the Dodgers’ only offense of the day with a two-out, two-run single in the second inning. The table had been set by Cubs starter Alec mills hitting Matt Beaty with a pitch and Jason Martin adding to what’s been a hot spring with a two-out single.

Martin entered the day leading the Dodgers with two home runs in Cactus League play.

The Dodgers threatened again in the fifth inning when Michael Busch, making his 2022 debut, led off with a double. Andy Burns was hit by a pitch with one out, only for Justin Turner to follow by grounding into an inning-ending double play.

Turner had previously singled in the game to collect his first hit of Spring Training.

L.A.’s lead held until the sixth inning, when miscommunication and some sloppy play hurt Evan Phillips. Phillips and Tony Wolters had signs crossed up and it resulted in a passed ball that allowed both runners to advance.

The Cubs then scored the tying run when Wolters’ throw to third base on a stolen base attempt got by Eddy Alvarez.

The Dodgers had a look at potentially earning a walk-off win as their first two batters reached safely in the bottom of the ninth. A walk loaded the bases with two outs but Burns was unable to deliver.

Dodgers see positive returns from Fulmer

Carson Fulmer was among the Dodgers’ selections during the Minor League phase of the 2021 Rule 5 Draft, and an interesting addition to the organization as a former top prospect.

Fulmer impressed in his Dodgers debut, throwing two scoreless innings and collecting two strikeouts. The right-hander threw a changeup with plenty of frequency and had good movement on multiple pitches.
