Trevor Bauer again struggled with command early into his start but he kept damage to a minimum and the Los Angeles Dodgers went on to settle for a 4-4 tie with the Seattle Mariners in a rain-shortened game.

Bauer’s inability to locate in the strike zone led to the Mariners loading the bases in the first inning on two walks and a hit batter. Bauer then walked a run in, and the inning was rolled over with just one out due to throwing 26 pitches.

Seattle loaded the bases again in the second inning but Bauer worked out of the jam. He struck out a pair in the third and got Taylor Trammel swinging to start the fourth. That wound up being it for Bauer at 65 pitches.

During an interview after coming out of the game, Bauer explained he was having trouble focusing with his right eye and solved it with CO2 treatment. “Not sure if it was the lighting or what it was, but I felt like my head was swimming,” he added.

Bauer nonetheless exited with a 2-1 lead thanks to Corey Seager smashing a third home run in as many games.

However, that was wiped away shortly after Nick Robertson entered the game. He issued consecutive walks and then allowed a go-ahead home run to Jake Fraley.

L.A. mounted a rally in the fifth inning behind a bevy of soft contact. Luke Raley’s broken-bat chopper to third base got by and scored a run, and Kody Hoese’s jam-shot RBI infield single pulled the Dodgers even.

As steady rain fell at Camelback Ranch, Tony Gonsolin turned in three scoreless innings on 35 pitches before the game was called in the seventh. Gonsolin retired all nine batters faced, which included striking out the side in the fifth inning.
