The Seattle Mariners were awarded the 2023 MLB All-Star Game, marking the third time the franchise will hold the honor.

This is the second time T-Mobile park will host the All-Star game, with the previous instance coming in 2001. The Mariners also hosted the 1979 All-Star game at The Kingdome, which has since been demolished.

In addition to the Midsummer Classic, MLB All-Star Week features the Home Run Derby, All-Star Futures Game, All-Star Celebrity Softball, fan events such as PLAY BALL Park, and legacy projects designed to leave a lasting impact throughout the local community hosting the event.

“The Mariners are honored to represent Seattle and the Pacific Northwest as the hosts of the 93rd All-Star Game in 2023,” Mariners chairman John Stanton said.

“The Mariners are dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences for our fans, serving our communities and enriching lives by sharing our love of baseball. The All-Star Week is an unparalleled opportunity to fulfill these key tenants of our purpose and mission and an amazing opportunity to show off our region to the nation and world.”

The Mariners follow the Los Angeles Dodgers in hosting the event, who host the 2022 All-Star game due to the cancellation of the 2020 All-Star game because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Seattle becomes the first American League club to host the Midsummer Classic since the Cleveland Indians did in 2019.

National League’s All-Star Game run

Although MLB attempts to rotate the All-Star Game, the National League has been on a dominant run since the Cincinnati Reds hosted at Great American Ball Park in 2015. The following year it was played at Petco Park, then Marlins Park, and Nationals Park in 2018.

The Cleveland Indians received the 91st Midsummer Classic, but that was followed by another two NL teams, with the Colorado Rockies hosting it in 2021 after it was moved out of Atlanta in a response to Georgia’s voting law that disproportionately impacts people of color and the Dodgers in 2022.

MLB has already named the Philadelphia Phillies as host for the 2026 event.
