Scott Van Slyke Disputes Josh Reddick’s Dodgers Cheating Allegations

The Los Angeles Dodgers filled multiple needs at the non-waiver trade deadline in 2016 when they acquired Rich Hill and Josh Reddick from the Oakland Athletics.

Hill went on to pitch in parts of four seasons with the organization while Reddick departed for the Houston Astros in free agency during the following offseason.

Reddick struggled in his brief stint with the Dodgers and took on plenty of criticism from fans. It was the motivation for him seeking retribution against his former team during the 2017 World Series.

Like most players on the 2017 Astros, Reddick has received even more vitriol for the team’s sign-stealing scandal. In response to a fan on Twitter, Reddick accused the Dodgers of also cheating while he was with the team.

Scott Van Slyke, a teammate of Reddick’s on the 2016 Dodgers, disputed those allegations in a tweet:

No cheating when I was a dodger. https://t.co/WThH5M09fF

Van Slyke was selected by the Dodgers in the 14th round of the 2005 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut in 2012 and went on to play in parts of six seasons with L.A., batting .242/.326/.417 with 44 doubles, 29 home runs and 95 RBI in 355 games.

Van Slyke was traded to the Cincinnati Reds at the non-waiver deadline in 2017, but didn’t appear in a game for the club. He later signed a Minor League contract with the Miami Marlins for the 2018 season, but also didn’t make an appearance before officially retiring.

Carlos Beltran admits Astros 2017 World Series victory vs. Dodgers is ‘stained’

Carlos Beltran, believed to be a key figure in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal, admitted earlier this year that the organization’s World Series victory against the Dodgers is tainted.
