Scott Boras Addresses Investigation Into Dodgers Free Agent Julio Urías

Julio Urías is among the group of Los Angeles Dodgers free agents this offseason, but his future remains up in the air after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in September.

The incident occurred outside of BMO Stadium at the conclusion of a soccer game between the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) and Inter Miami that drew national attention because of Lionel Messi.

Urías was released on a $50,000 bond and had a court date set for September 27. He did not pitch for the Dodgers again after his September 1 start against the Atlanta Braves.

Agent Scott Boras provided an update on his client at the General Managers Meetings and said the Los Angeles Police Department and MLB’s respective investigations into Urías are still ongoing, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic:

Boras said Wednesday that he has not heard any update from law enforcement or Major League Baseball as they continue to investigate former Dodgers left-hander Julio Urías.

“We have not heard anything from anyone involved in enforcement,” Boras said. “So we’re just waiting.”

Urías was previously arrested in May 2019 for alleged domestic violence, but charges were never filed. He ended up serving a 20-game suspension before eventually returning to the Dodgers later that season.

And while Urías hasn’t been charged to this point for his second arrest, it would be a surprise if the Dodgers attempt to re-sign him in free agency. The team had already distanced itself during the 2023 season by replacing his bobblehead giveaway and removing all murals of him at Dodger Stadium.

Furthermore, Urías is the first player who faces disciplinary action for a second time under MLB’s domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy that was implemented in August 2015.

Dave Roberts anticipated long MLB investigation into Julio Urías

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts acknowledged in September that MLB’s investigation into Urías could take a while and didn’t expect a resolution before the end of the 2023 season.
