Recap: Yoshinobu Yamamoto Struggles As Dodgers Fail To Sweep Yankees

The Los Angeles Dodgers could not complete the sweep of the New York Yankees with a 7-3 loss as they played poorly in all facets of the game.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was on the mound, but he struggled to find any success and turned in his worst start of the season. He pitched just 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

The right-hander struggled with his command all game and failed to put hitters away. He ended up making his shortest start of the season with his fewest strikeouts and most hits allowed.

Yamamoto allowed a two-out walk in the first inning, which extended the inning and led to a run scoring when Jasson Dominguez singled home Trent Grisham, who previously reached on a one-out single.

The Dodgers had a chance to get Grisham at the plate, but a throwing error from Andy Pages allowed the run to score. Yamamoto was there to back up the throw and should have got Dominguez at second, but Kiké Hernández failed to make the tag.

The Yankees added on more with a three-run third inning, started by a walk from Aaron Judge. Ben Rice followed with a home run, and after a pair of singles from Antony Volpe and Austin Wells, a run ended up scoring on a wild pitch.

New York extended their lead with two runs in the fifth inning against Anthony Banda and Lou Trivino. The right-hander allowed both runs to score on a pair of hits after Banda walked two hitters to start the inning.

The Yankees added a run against Chris Stratton in the ninth on a double after a leadoff walk.

The Dodgers scored their first run in the second inning on a solo home run from Tommy Edman. It followed a double from Pages, but he was thrown out trying to steal third.

Pages did, however, homer in the seventh inning for the Dodgers to score their second run of the game. The Dodgers made it a game when Max Muncy also homered to cut the deficit to three runs, but that was all they were able to score.

Ryan Yarbrough shuts down Dodgers in return to L.A.

After presenting Ryan Yarbrough with his 2024 World Series ring this weekend, the Dodgers struggled all game against the left-hander. He pitched six innings allowing just four hits and the one run on the homer to Edman.

Yarbrough also struck out five and walked no one. The top of the Dodgers lineup with Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernández, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith was a combined 0-for-11 against him.
